Why now and not in January
Northeastern Pennsylvania drops its leaves late and freezes early. That leaves a narrow window where the job is worth doing, and it closes fast.
Mid October
Oaks and maples drop over roughly two weeks here. Gutters that were fine in September fill to the lip in a fortnight. The first heavy rain packs it into a mat.
November
This is the one that matters. Clearing after the drop and before the first hard freeze is the whole job. Miss it and the debris is frozen in place until spring.
December onward
Blocked gutters hold water, water freezes, and ice backs up under the shingles. That is the failure that stops being a cleaning bill and starts being a roofing one.
What you are actually buying
They pay so the water goes where it is supposed to go. Here is what happens when it does not.
This is the expensive one. Gutters exist to move roof runoff away from the house. When they overflow, that water lands at the base of the wall and works its way down. Wet basements, cracked footings and settling all start the same way. None of them announce themselves until the repair is a serious number.
Standing water sits against the wood the gutter is nailed to. It softens, the fasteners lose their grip, and the gutter starts to pull away.
A NEPA freeze and thaw cycle turns a blocked gutter into a ridge of ice. That ice pushes meltwater back up under the roof.
A packed gutter is dry, sheltered and full of material. Wasps, ants and birds all treat it as free housing.
Every job, every time
Gutters are the easiest job in this trade to fake. You cannot see them from the ground. So we write down what we do and photograph it.
The full detailDebris comes out by hand into a bucket. A pressure wand just pushes packed leaf mulch into the downspout. That turns a clog you can see into one you cannot.
We run water through each one and watch it come out the bottom. A clear gutter feeding a blocked downspout is still a blocked system.
It leaves with us. No bags on the lawn, nothing raked into the beds.
You cannot see your own gutters from the ground. So you get pictures of what they looked like and what they look like now.
